IT WAS ALL A DREAM….

That started with the blip and blop of a sega mega drive. Seriously. Well that and his older siblings blasting the latest hits on repeat. Finding an outlet to a summer heat wave, MC C.B.(our subject of this biography) would play the sound selection part of his various Sonic the hedgehog and sega games, and write melodies lyrics and even music video ideas to them. Sometimes blending the current top 40 hit to starlight zone, while also memorizing “I’ll be missing you”.

At an early age his family found his taste…let’s say eltetic. Finding inspiration in the urban radio landscape of the 90’s as well as 80s one hit wonders; he got to enjoy due to pop up video. MC C.B. would even get up early to catch Vh1’s AM show, a show gear towards more folk and alternative sounds. In short if it sounded good he was there.

This evolving taste helped him wonder into the world of visual Kei, a Japanese sub-genre of hard-hair-metal where the records are wild and the looks are even wilder! Finding a love for it he would dive into the band X-japan entire discography falling in love with the wild and reckless lead guitarist hide. Even going as far as to visit a museum built in his honor in Japan’s Yokosuka region.

Other insparations varied wildly as well, there was the amazing honestly and rawness of Tupac shakur. The brash and bold approach of Eminem, the swag and style of M-Flo, and even the soft and subtle forcefulness of Hikaru Utada. Of course cant forget others such as, Daft Punk, third eye blind, hall and oats, new edition, backstreet boys…… ok you get the point. All of these artist helped sculpt the early ear of MC C.B. and are still heard throughout his music till this day.

We should also explain where the name came from, originally called Crybaby( due to a resemblance to johnny depp’s character in the movie of the same name) he added an Emcee to it, making him Emcee Crybaby, and then just like that it was just MC C.B.

His time in Tokyo helped solidify his passion for him, wandering around shinjuku, he found a local rap record shop, he overheard the locals freestyling; feeling inspired he jumped in. From the moment he stepped into the cypher that was it. THIS is what he wanted to do.

Focusing on making his dream a reality, he formed a group, thus quickly realizing this whole music thing is way harder than it appears. Teaching his friends how to rap and trying to teach rhythm helped make it clear to do this it took effort, and time.

Then during the second year of college he would receive a gift, a computer capable of recording music. With that his first few projects were recorded and released (you can follow the trajectory of his releases here), to promote these various projects he would frequent the dying new york underground scene rubbing shoulders and breaking bread with future stars, mac miller and wiz khalifa( not to name drop or anything). This run of shows countied for a while, with him saying goodbye to various landmark venues such as the silk road cafe, five points and the bowery poetry club (R.I.P.).

Finding a comfortable groove in releasing music and playing live shows he coasted for a bit, the love was in the art, the live show. However a choice encounter with that dude I mentioned before, Mac Miller would lead to a more sober and focused approach. You see Mac had blew up, and during a show in NYC he looked into the crowd noticed MC C.B. he remembered rapping with him just a few years early and called him to the back.

Once MC C.B. got there, after a few drinks and some raps Mac said flatly:

The fuck you doing? You know you can do more if your Doing more. Stop being scared to fail, if your shit flop fuck it get back in the studio and make another, and another, now pass me that blunt

MC C.B. took his words to heart and transformed his most recent project titled “L33T Life” to “ Junk story X” And shifted focus, It was time to start DOING MORE.

Junk Story X was release on July 14 2018, two months before Mac Miller’s untimely death.(thanks mac)

Since the release of JSX the work hasn’t stopped, looking to do more by doing more he has released numerous singles and mixtapes (which you can view again here) his second official album titled “April Showers” was released on February 12, 2022, As of July 2022 it has been downloaded and streamed over 1,000,000 times.

He has also launched the Shuffle Alliance management company working with other bands and artist such as Radioonblast and WHIP. As well other artistic endeavours.
